I obtained my 164 14 months ago now and its been a charm to own. This last week i’ve seen 150mph on the clock. YES I KNOW ITS OVER READING, ALL CARS DO. But what else can you buy for peanuts thats reliable, safe, rust free and damn fast. I will add i would not suggest buying one without history. Being enthusiasts cars they do get ragged. So it’s important the the maintainence schedule has been adhered to.

The new Alfa Romeo are great cars, not the same of ’80s or ’90s. Top Gear is a great tv show, but the best cars are made in italy not in england sorry

If you want to be emotionally entertained, buy the Alfa. If you want to feel different and special, buy the Alfa. The 159 is magnificent. Forget about the people who thinks that Alfas are not reliable…not a fuckin’ clue!
Alfa Romeo forever!

I’m from Canary Islands (Spa) and I tell you, alfas are famous here for being such fragile and delicate cars. On the other hand the classic alfas are beautiful and original.

what a shite reply. My first alfa a GTV 2.0 I owned for 3 years, I bought my next V6 GTV in 2004 and still have it. My wife had a 147 selespeed for 2 years and then we traded in for a 3.2 GT which we have had for a year to date. I have never had a problem. I won’t even start to list the alfas my mum, dad, brother and uncle have had, all with no problems. Too many people have no clue about how to look after cars and alfas need good regular servicing. so thats me talking about it,…

try owning a car more than 2-3 years…then talk about it

I think he does know what he’s talking about, because he clearly has much experience in this field, since he’s been doing it since 1874.
Obviously, it doesn’t mean that there is a 100% chance of every single Alfa to brake down, but the truth is, and I also talk of personal experience, he is absolutly right.

Clarkson talks such rubbish, I have owned 4 Alfas in the last ten years, never broken down. I currently own the GT 3.2 he talks about and its fantastic. people always say they break down due to the 70’s and 80’s batch of cars. just my opinion, but I would never by a Merc, BMW or Ford.

no, well it depends if they are kept in good order, and are mechanically sound. they are actually very, very good cars. jus becoz 3 people say they r bad, doesnt mean they are bad.

Oh yeah, I love all the TG boys’ sense of humour, they’re all different but at the same time they’re all great and they compliment each other perfectly.
I’ve just started going to the TG website and reading their blogs, they’re very good writers too, quite engaging.

That’s annoying.
James books (Notes from the Hard Shoulder and May on Motors) are good. There is some funny stuff in them. You definitely should read them. I love James’ sense of humour.

No, I haven’t had the opportunity to read any of the TG boys’ stuff, think I’ll have to look out for them though.
We used to have a huge shed a few years back when all of us were living at home, we each had our work areas in the shed and I always kept my stuff neat, tidy and categorised (eg different screws sorted out into little tubs whereas the boys would just have them all in one big jar), it was annoying when the boys couldn’t find their own stuff so they’d “borrow” mine and never return it!

CrocodileBurgers you must’ve read James’ columns/books re his arguments with Colin about the spanners not being put back in their places.
I’ve put a sticker which says “MINE” on a screwdriver set box and no one touches any of my sets. I **** when people borrow stuff of mine, especially where I’ve had it before they moved it (not that I’m organised. It’s just I know where things are). I’m not as bad as James is, but my dad can be (he’s not a Capricorn, but doesn’t believe in astrology either).

Are you obsessive with your tools too? I absolutely **** when someone borrows one of my screwdrivers and doesn’t put it back then I’m looking everywhere for it, drives me ratty.
