How distant is psychology from astrology?

In psychology you begin from the idea of previous psychological researchs and books; in astrology you take what it seems to be astro influences (natal chart) as the first source of information… both vary when you get to know the story or life of the person and by the descitions he or she had made… so are they so different as they seem?

well…if you think about it, a lot of fields have people that start out with what they know from other experiences/books/whatever, and have to adjust what they believe or think based on new experiences…but that doesn’t make all these fields that similar to each other.
and psychology is a huge field, it’s far more than counseling people, but it is a science, so, like any responsible scientists, most psychologists would attempt to adjust theories or beliefs based on new information.
personally, i see little similarities between psychology and astrology, except for the fact that they are both attempts at knowing people better- their methods are totally different

Well, this could be talked about for hours and hours… but when it comes down to it, I think the two studies are inter-connected and are equally important.
You’ll find that psychological conditions are largely expressed through astrology. Astrology does not guarantee a certain personality trait or psychological condition, but given the right surroundings, certain things can develop in a person – i.e. they have a POTENTIAL to develop a certain way. Just like in psychology, you might look at the experiences of a person and their life circumstances that may have made a person more INCLINED to behave a certain way. In both, you are looking at how an individual person has fulfilled certain potentials – in astrology, this potential is set by their birth chart, in psychology this potential is set by their experiences and in some cases their physical brain (which to me is just the same as a birth chart – ‘nature’ set this). In both, nature and nurture come into play as people’s potentials are fulfilled through unforseen life circumstances (as well as their free will).
Psychology and astrology are different in some ways, but all in all they complement eachother and both are very insightful, I feel.
